Coaches Have Earned Respect; Critics Have Not

It’s easy for us to say what the president of the United States should or should not have done, when none of us has actually served in the office of the presidency. We don’t know the behind-the-scenes challenges the president faces or what deliberation has gone into a decision. The president has to make tough calls based not on what’s popular but on what they believe is right.

You think our country has issues now; what if our president led by whatever was trending on Twitter that day?

In an ideal world, a president has advisers who care about the country and about them. The president trusts those people to say not just what’s popular but what’s true. If correction is to be effective, there has to be a level of respect established first.

Online critics often declare their list of achievements and then demand to be heard. However, if they had true credibility, they wouldn’t have to spend so much time building a case for why they should be taken seriously.

Would you seek financial advice from the guy who has declared bankruptcy a couple of times?

Would you seek marriage advice from the person who has blown through three marriages?

Would you seek cooking advice from someone who can’t even open a can of Chef Boyardee?

If not, then why in the world would you surrender your thoughts and emotions to someone online who has never accomplished anything relevant to your situation?

When it comes to leadership, listen to the people who have actually led something.

Anyone can tell you what you did wrong after you made the business deal or delivered the sermon or disciplined your child. However, the person who is constantly pointing out your flaws and tearing apart everything you do is not worth the emotional energy you’re surrendering to them.
